Wait Until You See What Tesla & SpaceX Are Building 🤯

A breathtaking cyberpunk megastructure that stretches for miles, glowing beautifully with silent autonomous vehicles gliding right through the center of it. Optimus robots walking around like it's the most normal thing in the world. All this set in motion to solve one of the largest manufacturing bottlenecks to comfort Tesla and SpaceX. The necessity of this factory is actually massively underappreciated. Today I want to talk about the Terafab in a lot of detail. What this factory actually is, why Tesla and SpaceX are building it, how big it really is, and why it matters so much to the future we're all heading into. Let's start with the sheer scale of this thing because it is really mind-blowing. Terafab is planned to be over 100 million square feet of manufacturing space. To give that some perspective, that's roughly 50 times the size of the Pentagon or 10 times the size of Giga Texas' main building. And that's rather large. Elon said this will not just be the largest building on Earth, but also the most valuable building on Earth. Think about that. How can a car company possibly afford to build this? More on that in a mo. The first phase of the project already has a $16.8 billion investment attached to it, and the full project could easily go well over $100 billion by the time it's complete. So why on Earth are they building something this big? Good question. It all comes down to one simple fact. Tesla and SpaceX are going to need an absolutely enormous amount of AI chips in the coming years. Optimus robots, robotaxis, cybercabs, robovans, and even SpaceX's orbital solar-powered data centers in space are all going to require huge numbers of very powerful AI chips. Elon has been very open about the fact that the entire world's current chip production capacity only covers around 2% of what they're going to eventually need. So, rather than waiting for someone else to solve this problem, they've decided to solve it themselves by building this factory. Just as Tesla and SpaceX have done time and time again with the development of entirely new products and tools. Think about their lithium refinery. They saw a major bottleneck in battery-grade lithium supply, so they built their own refinery from scratch, but only using a cleaner, more sustainable process. The same goes for their 4680 battery cells, their own cathode manufacturing, and even their AI training computers. When Tesla and SpaceX see a critical bottleneck coming, they don't wait for the rest of the world's industries to catch up. They roll up their sleeves and build the solution themselves. That's exactly why I love what Elon, Tesla, and SpaceX are doing. They don't just talk about problems, they actually go out and solve them. Most of the companies are so focused next quarter's earnings that they have no real foresight beyond the next 12 months, let alone the ability to solve massive bottlenecks 10 years down the line. The goal for Terafactory is to produce more than 1 terawatt of AI compute every single year once it's up and running. To put that into perspective, 1 terawatt is a trillion watts, enough computing power to run an absolutely enormous number of AI chips at the same time. It's such an amount that it dwarfs the entire world's current chip production of AI. One of the smartest parts of the whole plan here is the complete vertical integration. Instead of relying on supplies from around the world, almost everything is going to happen in one single building. That means they'll design the chips, make the silicon wafers, produce the memory that stores the data, put all of the pieces together in advanced packaging, and test everything themselves, all under the same roof. Now, let's talk about how this place looks to me, at least the render is genuinely stunning. There's this elevated central roadway that runs straight through the middle of the building and it's filled with autonomous electric vehicles. You can see Robo vans, cyber cabs, and Tesla semis, all moving silently with no drivers whatsoever. Since they're all electric, they can all run on sustainable energy, produce no pollution, and run completely silently. Contrast that to legacy auto manufacturers that are still churning out cars and lorries with spluttering, stinking, polluting engines. Madness. You've got Optimus robots casually walking around the ground. These being generation two, of course. We are yet to see the final production versions of Tesla's humanoids, but I have a feeling that they will look far slicker than anything we've seen to date. Ultimately, I can see Tesla's Optimus robots becoming the primary workforce in facilities like this. It takes a little imagination right now, of course, but Tesla wouldn't be investing and focusing on building the Optimus facility at Fremont or the facility at Giga Texas with a planned production target of 10 million Optimus per year in a building that they're building right now. This Tera fab is totally connected to it, of course. They can't have one without the other. But, they just wouldn't be building these things if they didn't think it was going to be possible. You can also see what looked like tunnel entrances coming off the site, probably for efficiently moving goods and materials around without clogging up the surface. We've already seen the boring tunnels under Giga Texas or the Cybertruck birthing tunnel as it's known. It would make perfect sense to have a network of tunnels transporting goods in and out of the Terafactory facility much in the same way that the Vegas Loop is quietly building out a massive network underground. Perhaps we'll even see the Hyperloop idea make a comeback once Optimus is solving the labor shortage and able to produce at massive scale. I can easily imagine these robots being able to build the Hyperloop systems of the future. Looking through the comments under the original post by Elon, people are absolutely loving how this looks. So many people are saying it feels proper cyberpunk. Others are calling it a sci-fi city rather than a factory. And there's a real sense of excitement that Tesla isn't just building another boring industrial building that we've all become accustomed to living next to. They're creating something that actually looks like the future to match their autonomous vehicles, robots, and even current factories to be fair. They're pretty good at this. While all of this is happening, we're seeing traditional car manufacturers like Volkswagen closing factories and cutting over 100,000 jobs. The contrast couldn't be more different, could it? Tesla has the confidence and the resources to dream this big and actually go out and build it. This factory isn't just about making chips. It's the critical backbone that's going to enable everything Tesla has been talking about for years. Millions of Optimus robots working in the real world, huge fleets of robotaxis and robovans transforming how we get around, and SpaceX being able to run powerful AI systems in orbit while also pushing humanity towards becoming a multi-planetary species. Can you even think of anything more ambitious than that, by the way? And that's really the point of it all. Tesla isn't just building products. They're building a better future for all of us. Sustainable energy, electric vehicles, autonomy, robotaxis, Optimus robots, and eventually making humanity multi-planetary. Most people can't even imagine what that world will look like, but if you're watching this video, I know that you can see the bigger picture, too. And the correct reaction is to be inspired. This is exciting. And it's also a massive boost for American manufacturing, bringing advanced semiconductor production back to the United States, and creating at least 3,000 permanent high-tech jobs for humans at first, many of which will go to people in the local areas. This really is one of the most ambitious industrial projects happening anywhere on Earth right now. It's bold, it's incredibly forward-thinking, and it's genuinely exciting to watch it all unfold.
