Intel is at the center of nearly every major deal: Apple: Lower-end iPhone, iPad, and Mac processors on Intel 18A-P · Tesla/SpaceX/xAI: Terafab, a $25 billion chip manufacturing facility in Austin using Intel’s 14A process
That hands Musk a big opportunity for marshaling a hugely overvalued stock to salvage great value for himself and the other Tesla owners. The SpaceX S-1 filing makes a big deal over the sundry areas of collaboration between the two companies. Those include partnering to develop digital workflows and their joint-ownership in the Terafab facility that plans to produce a gigantic one terawatt a year in compute hardware.
Additionally, Musk’s two companies are already deeply intertwined through shared semiconductor fabrication at their joint TERAFAB facility in Austin, cross-company supply chain transactions, and Tesla’s $2 billion investment in xAI prior to the SpaceX-xAI merger.
The broader pattern here is the ... right now is almost entirely held by SpaceX — which controls the launch vehicle, the satellite bus, the chip roadmap through its Terafab joint venture with Tesla, and the AI workloads through the merged xAI entity....
On top of this, there are mountains of areas requiring further investment, such as the construction of a semiconductor plant called Terafab. The market is optimistic about Musk's AI drive. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, the underwriters of the SpaceX initial public offering (IPO), forecast that SpaceX's annual revenue will reach approximately $160 billion in 2028, driven by AI growth. ※ By subscribing to "Kim Ki-hyuk's Tesla World," you can easily grasp the future of
Wall Street remains cautiously positive: Tesla carries a Moderate Buy rating, with an average price target near $402 per share, suggesting only limited upside after a volatile year for TSLA. Oppenheimer’s Tim Horan highlights Tesla as an emerging “Physical AI” play, expecting capex to surge into AI infrastructure, Terafab factories and energy projects, which could support the stock into 2026 if execution matches the ambition.
Analysts note that shareholders can no longer isolate SpaceX’s core launch and satellite businesses from xAI’s AI operations, including its Grok chatbot and extensive data center build-out. Investor concerns are compounded by reports that demand for Grok has been weaker than anticipated, clouding near-term revenue visibility. At the same time, Musk’s broader AI ambitions – such as the proposed “Terafab” mega chipmaking initiative involving SpaceX, xAI, and Tesla – point to substantial additional
On the other hand, SpaceX and Blue Origin are going at it alone — the two companies are competitors, and it doesn’t look like they’re cooperating with each other to develop the technologies required for space-based AI compute. It even seems that the former is intent on vertical integration, with its new 11-million-square-foot (around 190 to 200 football fields) Gigasat factory and Musk’s TeraFab megaproject.
Host: The simplest argument against Terafab and Intel's foundry competitiveness is labor costs and feasibility of domestic manufacturing. What's the logic behind your decision to double down on foundry?
Musk announced in February that SpaceX would acquire xAI, a step in his plan to launch solar-powered, satellite-based data centers to run future AI models. In May, SpaceX announced plans to invest $55 billion to build a "Terafab" semiconductor factory in Texas, producing chips for artificial intelligence as well as robotics.
The chipmaker’s outlook is supported by several tailwinds, according to Cramer, including Nvidia’s $5 billion investment, the U.S. government’s nearly 10% stake and Tesla Inc‘s (NASDAQ:TSLA) plans to use Intel’s next-generation manufacturing process for chips at Terafab in Austin. Terafab is not just another fab project. It is an attempt to build a private industrial nervous system for Musk’s empire: Tesla, SpaceX, xAI, Optimus robots, Starlink, autonomous systems and possibly space-based AI infrastructure. In other words, Terafab is not merely about producing chips.
The third pillar is Terafab, a chip foundry planned for Austin, Texas, originally launched as a joint venture between Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI in March 2026, with Intel joining in April 2026 as the chip manufacturing partner.
SpaceX has filed plans for Terafab, a proposed semiconductor and advanced computing facility in Texas with an initial investment of $55 billion and a possible total buildout of $119 billion.
All-in-one-post: Elon Musk’s TeraFab is a major wafer fab project and new opportunity that will test ASML’s supply chain, said ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet, comparing the size to the millions-of-wafers DRAM fab projects in South Korea, in an interview with Bloomberg.
Moderator: Another widely discussed strategic initiative is Terafab and your collaboration with Elon Musk. Could you share how this partnership came about and how you work together? Lip-Bu Tan: I believe we both agree that Elon Musk is one of the greatest entrepreneurs of this century. He and I share a common assessment: semiconductor infrastructure has not kept pace with the growth of AI—there are gaps in capacity, manufacturing efficiency, and power efficiency, and we both recognize this chall
Tesla, too, after CEO Elon Musk publicly recruited domestic semiconductor design personnel this February, launched a Seoul recruitment drive last month for senior process engineers to be deployed on its "Terafab" project. An industry official analyzed, "They are targeting the memory, foundry, and packaging personnel of Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) and SK hynix, in a move aimed at semiconductor vertical integration."
On the foundry side, the company has received close to $8.9 billion from the U.S. government and is now partnering with Tesla's TeraFab consortium alongside SpaceX and xAI, with 18A yields improving at 7% per month. Alpha Wealth Insiders Fund stated the following regarding Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) in its Q1 2026 investor letter: "Despite poor fundamentals, we invested heavily in Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), viewing its role as the sole U.S. defense silicon chip foundry as &q
Tan speaks about Elon as "the best entrepreneurs of the century" and they share the view that semiconductor infrastructure is not keeping up with AI growth. He speaks on the Terafab project, plus much more. The entire interview is worth a watch. Podcast link in the thread. More Terafab news in ...
Fouquet described Terafab as an example of a major fab project. He compared its possible scale with large DRAM projects in Korea that can reach millions of wafers per month. That kind of demand would clearly benefit ASML if it leads to more chip factories and more advanced lithography equipment orders.
